The Reasoning
I have never been a fan of the New Year’s Resolution. January 1st seems like such an arbitrary date. I have made resolutions before. I have even kept them. I just don’t particularly like them.
To me a New Year’s Resolution is an attempt to “fix” something that is wrong with you. I have flaws. Everyone does. But I don’t need a resolution to tell me to work on them.
There are, however, things that I want to do. Things that I want to try. I want goals that aim to enhance or improve my life…not fix it.
I’m 26 now. That is weird. There are many things I thought I was going to have accomplished by now that are still undone.
So, I made a list of 26 things I want to do while I am 26.
Some of these have already been set in motion…a couple have been in the works for years and are just serendipitously now coming to fruition. As long as they are completed while I am 26, I am going to count them!
Some of these things are frivolous, and silly, and really serve no point other than to see if I can do them…
Disclaimers:
1. These 26 things are not a real bucket list. There are a lot of things I want to do before I “kick the bucket”…these are just 26 things that I feel I am capable of doing physically, financially, and logistically this year. They are things that don’t need to be put off.
2. There are a lot of really great things that I am 99% sure will occur this year, but I did not put them on the list because they are not things that I have a direct impact on. (Becoming an aunt, for example…)
3. If I do not complete these 26 things the earth will not open up and devour me, lightning will not smite me from heaven, and I won’t even beat myself up about it. The goal is completion, completion would be cool, but what is most important is the attempt.
4. The list is not in order by importance or planned completion. It is merely the order that I thought of things.
